Simon Bailey has built extensive knowledge and understanding of metallurgy and comminution with particular emphasis in the field of fine and ultrafine grinding in stirred media mills. This expertise has been developed over a decade of career experience as a consultant metallurgist, and several years with Keramos. Simon has completed both undergraduate and postgraduate university level education in mining related degrees; an undergraduate degree in geology, and post graduate masters degree in minerals processing engineering. His experience and comprehensive understanding of metallurgy covers a wide range of aspects of the industry, he has specific experience dealing with the processing of the base metals; copper, lead, zinc, tin and tungsten, as well as precious metals and industrial minerals. Simons career experience has been largely involved in comminution, this experience can be summarised as follows:
Expert knowledge and expertise in fine and ultrafine grinding with stirred media mills. Detailed experience of the optimisation of Metso SMD, and IsaMill grinding circuits.
Fundamental understanding of ceramic media testing in stirred media milling applications. Designed and implemented renowned test procedures.
Design and sizing of primary and secondary crushing circuits including detailed experience of the sizing and design of Vertical Shaft Impactor (VSI) circuits.
Experience and understanding of SAG, AG, Rod and Ball milling metallurgical testing, and the significance of these technologies in comminution.
“Keramos has saved us around AUD$2 million per year directly on media costs. The other savings are mill linings, agitator arms, maintenance costs, downtime, freight and storage. Consequently, we’ve awarded Keramos a long-term contract for the supply of their ceramic grinding media.” –
